Sidebars

Bookmarks, history, and downloads in sidebars, and how their Chrome permissions are asked for and removed.

The Bookmarks, History, and Downloads buttons in the page toolbar open a sidebar. Bookmarks open on the right; history and downloads open on the left. Press the same button again to close it. Inside a sidebar, the Bookmarks, History, and Downloads tabs at the top switch it to another source.

A sidebar sits beside the widgets when the page has room for it, and over the page in a smaller window. Sidebars are not available in clean mode. A sidebar shows up to 200 rows; use its filter to narrow the list.

Turn on a source

Each source is off until you turn it on, because each needs its own Chrome permission.

  1. Open the sidebar and click Turn on bookmarks, Turn on history, or Turn on downloads.
  2. Tabmori shows the words Chrome is about to use and what Tabmori does with the data. Click Continue.
  3. Answer Chrome's prompt.
SourceChrome's prompt saysWhat Tabmori does
BookmarksRead and change your bookmarksReads bookmarks on this computer. Never changes or uploads them.
HistoryRead and change your browsing history on all signed-in devicesReads history on this computer. Never changes or uploads it.
DownloadsManage your downloadsReads download records on this computer. Never changes or uploads them, and never opens a file.

If you decline, the sidebar says Not turned on. and offers to try again. If the permission is later removed in Chrome, the sidebar says Permission removed and offers Turn on again.

You can also turn sources on and off in Settings › Data sources and permissions.

What each sidebar shows

  • Bookmarks start at the bookmarks bar. Open folders to go deeper; the path shows where you are. Bookmarks with javascript: or data: addresses are not shown.
  • History has the ranges Today, 7 days, 30 days (the default), and All.
  • Downloads can show All, Complete, In progress, or Interrupted downloads, filtered by file name. Show in folder reveals the file in your file manager. Tabmori never opens a downloaded file.

The same sources are available in the search box with /. See Page and widgets.

Turn a source off

In Settings › Data sources and permissions, click Turn off next to the source.

  • Turning off Bookmarks or History also gives the permission back to Chrome.
  • Turning off Downloads keeps the downloads permission, because saving Chrome theme files uses it too. To remove it, also turn off Save Chrome theme files under Permissions on the same screen.

The same screen has the Site icons switch for quick-link icons.
