Settings and data

Where Tabmori keeps your data, how to back it up and restore it, and how undo, cleanup, and reset work.

Open Customize › Settings, or the extension's Options entry in Chrome. The settings list is Language, Search and shortcuts, Data sources and permissions, Backup and restore, Data on this computer, About and licences, and Reset.

  • Language: 简体中文, English, or Follow the browser. It changes only Tabmori's own text.
  • Search and shortcuts: the default web search (Chrome's default engine), the local search scopes, and your site shortcuts. See Page and widgets.
  • Data sources and permissions: bookmarks, history, downloads, site icons, and theme-file saving. See Sidebars.

Where your data lives

Tabmori stores themes, layouts, notes, tasks, links, wallpapers, note media, and settings in the browser's IndexedDB for the current Chrome profile. The interface language choice is kept in the extension's local storage. Nothing is stored in Chrome sync, and nothing is uploaded.

Changes save automatically. Widgets show Saved on this computer after a save, and the page also saves when you close or leave the tab.

If two tabs edit the same item, the later tab shows This item was also changed in another tab. with Review changes, where you choose Use saved version or Use this page's content. If another tab restores a backup or resets Tabmori, other tabs show Your data was replaced in another tab. Reload to continue.

Undo

  • In the Customize panel, Undo and Redo step through appearance and layout edits, up to 30 steps. On the page, use Ctrl + Z and Ctrl + Shift + Z (⌘ on macOS).
  • Undo my changes at the bottom of the panel returns to how things were when you opened it.
  • Deleting a widget shows a message with Undo.
  • Inside a note, the editor has its own undo.

Backup and restore

A backup is a .zip file holding Tabmori's whole local database: notes, tasks, links, wallpaper files, note media, themes, and settings.

  1. Tick I understand the backup is plain text and holds private notes, tasks and links.
  2. Click Export backup .zip. The file tabmori.private-backup.zip goes to your Downloads folder through a normal browser download.

The backup is not encrypted. Keep it somewhere safe. If some stored rows could not be read, the backup also carries them in damaged-rows.json for reference; restore ignores that file.

To restore:

  1. Click Restore a backup… and choose the .zip file.
  2. Check the counts it shows: Themes · Widget data · Media.
  3. Click Confirm restore. Everything on this computer is replaced by the backup's contents.

A theme file (.tabmori.json) is not a backup. It carries appearance only; see Appearance.

Data on this computer

This screen shows how many themes, images, and videos are stored, and how much space private content takes. Clean up unused pictures removes stored media files that nothing uses any more.

All local media together is limited to 200 MB, the most a backup can hold. When it is full, Tabmori says Local media has reached the backup limit (200 MB); delete unused media first. At most 198 media files can be stored at once, whatever their size; reaching that count shows the same message.

About and licences

Shows the installed version, the line Everything stays on this computer. Nothing is uploaded., and the third-party notices.

Reset

Reset… then Confirm reset deletes every theme, wallpaper, and piece of private content on this computer and returns Tabmori to how it started. Export a backup first if you might want anything back.

Removing the extension from Chrome also removes its local data. Backup and theme files you exported stay in your Downloads folder until you delete them.
